Xiaomi has already introduced its new and very first foldable phone. This new phone will join the Mi series and officially be known as the Mi Mix Fold. The new foldable phone is packed with awesome features as well as specs that anyone would love to have.
One of the main highlights of the Mi Mix Fold phone is its foldable feature. When it comes to its internal screen, it is packed with an 8.01-inch OLED display which the company claims to be their phone with the largest display yet. With this screen, Xiaomi added a desktop mode that can be accessed with a three-finger swipe and can utilize multiple resizable windows.
Xiaomi also developed a U-shaped hinge for their foldable phones and is 27% lighter compared to other foldable. Also, the phone underwent 200,000 bends to test its reliability and even placed to another 1 million bends to ensure quality and reliability. The internal screen also features HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.
As for its external panel, the Mi Mix Fold sports a 6.52-inch AMOLED screen. It has a 90Hz refresh rate which the internal screen lacks, and a 180Hz touch sampling rate. This also supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.
Xiaomi also developed its own image processing chip with now the Surge C1. This runs the 3A algorithms namely, Auto Focus, Auto Exposure, and Auto White Balance. Also, this foldable phone will feature the world’s very first Liquid Lens technology. The technology will be featured in the telephoto camera which is made out of a flexible film that is filled with transparent liquid. Similar to the human eye, the lens can change its shape. Since its liquid, there would be concerns about extreme temperature, and good thing it still can function under -40°C to 60°C (-40°F to 140°F).
Its camera features a triple camera setup on its rear, which is equipped with a 108MP main sensor which is supported with a 1/1.52” ISOCELL HM2. There is also the 8MP lens features an ultrawide and macro lens that houses the liquid lens technology, with a 123° field of view, and a 13MP sensor that packs with 1.12µm pixels.
The Mi Mix Fold will be powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset and paired with a 3,200 MHz LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 Storage. It offers 12/256GB, 12/512GB, and 16/512GB memory for the storage configurations. When it comes to battery capacity, it has a 5,020mAh capacity which is split into two 2,460mAh cells. For charging, it is supported by a 67W wired charging and can fully charge the phone within 37 minutes.
The cooling system for this foldable is featured with a “butterfly-type” that is a combination of the vapor chamber, thermal gel, and multiple layers of graphite sheets. With its high-performance cooling system, the phone can dissipate heat with a total area of 22,583 mm². This not only cools down the chipset but can remove heat using the 5G antennas and the fast-charging system.
There will be two versions for the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold. The first one will feature a Gorilla Glass back featuring a ceramic texture. The next version will sport a black ceramic back with laser engraving, a gold mid-frame, and volume buttons which will be known as the Ceramic Special Edition.
These versions are already available to be pre-ordered in China while on April 16, they will officially be on sale. The 12/256GB version will be priced at CNY 10,000 (PHP 73,910 est.), the 12/512GB version is priced at CNY 11,000 (PHP81,300 est.), and the 16/512 version will have a price of CNY 13,000 (PHP96,000). For international release, we would have to wait for the company’s announcement.
