Sony’s most advanced full-frame camera system, the Alpha 1, is slated to arrive very soon in the Philippines. But to give you an idea, the best Sony Alpha camera yet is priced at $6,500 in the US or around ~Php312,200 when roughly converted to Philippine peso, though shipping won’t start until March 2021. With that in mind, we might see the camera shipping locally around the 2nd quarter of the year. Regardless, here’s what you need to know about it.
The Alpha 1 brings a new 50.1MP Exmor RS full-frame sensor, capable of shooting 30 images per second and video record up to an incredible 8K@30fps in 10-bit color mode. Sony claims that it has the world’s fastest mechanical shutter flash sync up to 1/400 second. Additionally, it’s the first time for the Alpha series to sport electronic shutter flash sync up to 1/200 second. Another world-first claim is the use of an OLED Quad-XGA electronic viewfinder that boasts a 240fps refresh rate.
Shooting-wise, the Alpha 1 packs an upgraded BIONZ XR engine that offers eight times more processing power. Also, it supports up to 120 AF/E calculations per second, doubling the speed of the Alpha 9 II. Sony is adding an S-cinetone color matrix as seen in FX9 and FX6 for an “expressive” cinematic look. The 8K video features 8.6K oversampling for more detail, alongside 4K 120fps 10-bit 4:2:2 chroma subsampling.
