It was recently reported that SM Prime Holdings will launch their own shopping platform next year in order to help lessen the huge number of foot traffic in SM stores nationwide. The company also stated that through this platform, they’ll be able to compete with other e-commerce sites.
SM will follow a click and collect model for the platform. Buyers may purchase products from the company’s online store and select an SM store that is nearest to them. The customer will then go to their chosen store and collect their purchase. This will enable the customer to save more time since they no longer have to spend hours physically looking for the product they desire.
Last week, during the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting, John Ong, SM Prime Chief Finance Officer, mentioned that they are going to formalize the setup of the platform within the year as well as come up with a legal entity for the platform.
SM is a trusted market here in the Philippines so this new shopping platform might be a bigger hit than the other online stores that already exist in the country. Online shoppers won’t have to feel any doubts when shopping and the products will still have their usual warranty and return policy.
Unfortunately, when asked if the company is working on deliveries in the near future, Ong stated this words,
“We have yet to work toward delivery. Potential din yun because we have affiliate companies that can deliver. But our work is toward click mo and collect sa malls. So we’re trying to set up specific areas in the mall.”
