Samsung officially made a statement yesterday that it will start recalling all Galaxy Note 7 units worldwide. This comes after a dozen reports of faulty battery on the flagship phablet that poses hazards like explosions and fire while charging.
The company has confirmed 35 incidents of explosions and fire while the total estimate of affected devices is around 0.1% or 1 unit in every 42,000 shipped Galaxy Note 7.
Although the numbers pose a very little threat to about 2.5 million units the Korean-giant has shipped, the company iterates that they’re recalling “out of an abundance of caution”.
Samsung will start replacing all units over the weeks with the USA receiving the replacements next week. Despite the announcement, actual sales have not been halted and some authorized stores still selling the affected devices. So it would be better for potential buyers to wait until Samsung announces the availability of new Galaxy Note 7.
With Apple announcing the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus this September, this incident would likely affect the sales of the Galaxy Note 7 and other Samsung flagship phones.
We will only find out the total damage to the sales after a few months from the iPhone 7 release date.
