Mobile World Congress 2019 or MWC hasn’t even officially started yet but we’re already seeing Oppo making a big announcement for what its smartphones will (hopefully) feature in the future. With triple cameras being the trend in mobile devices, the Chinese company introduces its 10X lossless zoom for smartphones.
Oppo’s Product Manager, Chuck Wang, introduced its smartphone camera breakthrough in Barcelona, Spain as part of the company’s goal of “making expressive and exploratory photography even more accessible to smartphone users“. Made possible through a triple camera lens setup, Oppo makes use of a 48MP sensor along with a 16MP ultrawide sensor and a 10X telephoto sensor to combine data of these sensors and turn it into a 10x lossless zoom-in image.
The quality of captured images through the new telephoto camera further improves with the inclusion of OIS on both the main sensor and telephoto lens.
Normally, this type of setup on a smartphone end up having a thicker build but the company developed a “periscopic module that is structured in a horizontal organization” resulting in 6.76mm in thickness something akin to the Oppo R17 Pro.
Back in 2017, Oppo did the same thing introducing its 5X zoom that never really made to the market. However, it’s aiming a 2nd quarter release on their upcoming products with mass production to be held soon.
