Lenovo’s latest budget or entry level Vibe K5 has been officially launched locally in the Philippines along the beefier Vibe K5 Plus and K5 Note. For an official P6,999 price and a modest Android specs, let’s find out in our unboxing and hands-on with the full review to follow.
The box contents of the Lenovo Vibe K5 include the unit in gold with grey as an option, a screen protector, some papers, its 2750 mAh removable battery, 1-amperere wall charger and a USB data cable.
Lenovo has started replacing the plastic build to its Android smartphones. That’s true to this entry-level Vibe with mixed of metal and plastic construction in its removable metal casing while the front is flat and surrounded by a metal rim.
Up front are the non-backlit capacitive keys on the bottom and the light sensor and 5MP selfie camera on top. Meanwhile, the right side houses a volume rocker and a power button. On the back is a 13MP camera paired with a LED flash and there at the bottom is Dolby Atmos-equipped dual speakers.
Access to the user replaceable battery, dual microSIM, and microSD card is through the removable back case.
Running on Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, Lenovo’s country manager promises an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow this end of 3rd quarter.
In terms of performance, inside is a dated Snapdragon 415 quad-core chip, 2GB RAM, and expandable 16GB storage. In our initial test, the hardware scored about 24k in Antutu benchmark while actual performance is a bit hanging in some areas. But overall, the Vibe K5 does the job for most tasks.
For a P6,999 price, the Vibe K5 is Lenovo’s latest take on the budget category. But the question is, how would it fare in our real world and more objective review? Stay tuned for that and let’s know what specific areas you want us to check in our full review and comparisons.
