Is a Smartphone Screen Protector Necessary?

It would be unfortunate and a waste of money to purchase a smartphone, which may cost up to a thousand dollars or more, just to discover that the screen is scratched. Screen protectors are still widely used, even though advances in display technology have raised questions about whether or not consumers need them.

Indeed, there was once a time when installing a screen protector was so important that it was almost required. However, the materials used to produce current smartphone displays have significantly shifted. Although there is no risk involved in using a screen protector, it is possible that you may not require one.

What Is a Screen Protector?

For others, screen protectors are a must-have for any device and are crucial for your phone. A screen protector could be a sheet of transparent plastic or a fragile piece of glass that you stick onto your smartphone’s display. The screen protector is made to fit the precise contours of your device and has precise cutouts where they should be. This is why you must get a distinct screen protector for each device.

Screen protectors are often applied by cleaning your smartphone’s display with a cloth made of microfiber, then using a small amount of soapy water to the protector itself, and finally pressing the protector down onto the show. It is possible to remove moisture and bubbles from the surface, and this will leave a perfectly flat surface, making the protection undetectable.

Screen protectors are designed to absorb impact rather than the display’s fragile glass, which is their primary function. Installing a new screen protector is far more straightforward than replacing a product that has been scratched or broken.

Generally, there are three types of screen protectors: film-based, plastic-based, or glass-based.

  • Film-based protectors are typically the most durable and have the most extended lifespan.
  • Plastic-based protectors last approximately twice as long as glass-based protectors but may have adhesive qualities that are more sensitive.
  • Glass-based protectors are typically less durable but have adhesive qualities that are more transparent.

On the other hand, only two kinds of screen protectors make screen protectors irrelevant.

  1. Gorilla Glass

Gorilla Glass keeps scratches and other damage from getting into screens. The product came out in 2013 and was a big hit right away. Laptops, tablets, smartphones, and even cars have Gorilla Glass.

Gorilla Glass makes screens sturdy and long-lasting. In addition to that, it stops dirt, dust, and debris from getting inside. Gorilla Glass is fire- and accident-resistant. Don’t worry if your screen gadget doesn’t last as long as you’d like. Gorilla Glass will stick around.

Corning’s Gorilla Glass is used in most Android phones. This is scratch-resistant, hardened glass, and Corning has continuously updated Gorilla Glass.

Gorilla Glass Victus survived 2-meter drops onto hard, rough surfaces. Other manufacturers’ aluminosilicate glasses break at 0.8 meters. Gorilla Glass Victus is 4x scratch-resistant than aluminosilicate. Gorilla Glass Victus is a vital device glass. We hope to help manufacturers make more challenging devices.

  1. Ceramic ShieldEl iPhone SE 3 podría tener MagSafe, escudo cerámico en su pantalla, batería de más duración | iPhoneros

iPhones lack Gorilla Glass. “Ceramic Shield” is an iPhone-exclusive glass, and Corning makes iPhone 12’s Ceramic Sheild.

Ceramic Shield protects the iPhone 13 and iPhone 12 series; it offers 4x more excellent drop resistance, crisp optical performance, and scratch resistance. This technology improves Apple’s glass protection reputation, which hasn’t been great.

How did Apple develop this revolutionary glass technology, and how does it compare to others? Corning, makers of Gorilla Glass, made it. The name of Apple’s new protective glass hints at what it is. Clay crystals are the key.

A high-temperature crystallization process puts these tiny ceramic nanocrystals into the glass matrix. The way crystals are made is to keep cracks and chips from spreading. Corning makes the glass even stronger by exchanging ions, which increases the size of the ions and makes the structure more rigid. This helps the glass stay together if it gets broken and hides the signs of scratches.

The main benefit of this ceramic method is that it is strong and has few flaws. But unlike regular glass, ceramics are not usually obvious. The ceramic glass was used on the back of phones like the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus from 2019 screen protector. But because it is made of tiny ceramic crystals smaller than the wavelength of light, Ceramic Shield is obvious and can be used to protect the iPhone’s screen.

Disadvantages of Screen Protectors

Screen protectors change the way the display feels when you touch it. Plastic doesn’t feel as lovely as glass, so more people are using glass screen protectors.

Putting a piece of plastic or thin glass between you and the screen can change how the screen looks subtly, especially if the screen protector fades over time. And since screen protectors aren’t as strict as Gorilla Glass or Ceramic Shield, they pick up scratches that wouldn’t have hurt your smartphone’s screen.

All this is true if you put the screen protector on the right. If you’re not careful, your screen protector could get bubbles and cracks, and you might have to put on a new one. They may also cause your device to overheat if left in contact with a heat source.

Purpose of Screen Protector

If you are simply a person that is very careful with things, your smartphone, without a screen protector, can be vulnerable to sharp things, edges, and anything possible to scratch your screen. Over time, a screen full of scratches is undeniably not pleasing.

One easy example is beach sand, which could harm your smartphone’s glass screen. Another example is small rocks, and gorilla Glass or Ceramic shields can be scratched by other types of glass, rare metals, and diamonds.

Screen protectors also have coatings that prevent fingerprints, but modern smartphones have ” oleophobic ” coatings that repel the oil on your fingers and make fingerprints less noticeable. Even if your fingerprints are getting worse, all you need to do is quickly wipe the screen, preferably with a microfiber cloth.

Screen Protector Tips

When looking for a screen protector, you should prioritize finding one tailored to the exact specifications of your device. To avoid any potential harm to the smartphone or the screen, you should only use protectors you can put your faith in, such as those manufactured with film technology or a water-resistant design.
