Instagram just launched their own IGTV, a new feature that lets you upload an hour long videos which will be located on the explore page and in a separate app.
Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom said that it’s Instagram’s time to move forward and evolve.
It allows any users to upload their own videos. Instagram said that they will be featuring video creators like Lele Pons, King Bach, and Fortnite streamer Ninja.
For those who are wondering, Systrom explained that they made a dedicated app for watching videos so that you can enjoy watching without all the distraction.
On the dedicated app, users will able to browse through various videos made by the creators. Just swipe up to see which videos are popular, made by the creator you subscribed, videos that are recommended for you and videos you wish to resume. You will also be notified when a new video was uploaded from the creator you’re following.
Just like YouTube, creators can create their own channel with their videos on it and add links on the description of their video.
“There’s no ads in IGTV today,” Systrom said. However, brands may be able to advertise soon since creators will start to create a content that takes a lot of time and effort, it will be reasonable to monetize their videos in the future.
IGTV will start to roll out globally on the next few weeks in Android and iOS.
