As it expands its platform with new capabilities, Instagram is moving further and further away from its roots as an image-sharing website. Instagram is currently working on a repost feature that resembles Twitter’s retweet function.
Repost examines the possibility of resharing posts in the platform’s Feed, and Instagram confirmed to TechCrunch that it is in the testing phase. Users may only share posts via Stories right now, and those Stories expire after 24 hours.
Repost allows users to bring interesting Instagram content to their feeds and leave it there. “Recommend a post your friends may love by reposting it to a feed or story” is one of the critical objectives of the future service.
A message can be sent to the person who republished a post using the Repost feature, which is currently available in the share menu of a post or reel. A tab in the user’s profile will house all reposts for followers to view. Like Twitter’s Retweet, Instagram’s repost will let users comment before posting.
Along with heavily promoting Reels and video content, Instagram is experimenting with several features on the network, such as exclusive material for paid users, payments through direct messages, and new age verification methods.
