House Resolution No. 1900, filed by Agri Party-List Rep. Wilbert Lee, is pushing for a 30% increase in PhilHealth benefits and coverage.
The resolution aims to expand existing benefits and introduce new ones, including key diagnostic tests and lab exams.
Lee argues that it should focus on improving benefits and lowering costs for members, rather than acting as an investment firm.
He also emphasized that the insurance corporation has substantial funds, including PHP89.9 billion in excess savings recently transferred to the national treasury, which could be used to enhance coverage.
Lee criticized the fact that essential medical procedures, such as PET (positron emission tomography) scans, CT (computed tomography) scans, and MRIs (magnetic resonance imaging), are not currently covered by PhilHealth.
He pointed out that these diagnostic tools are crucial for accurate and timely medical diagnosis, and their exclusion limits access to important healthcare services for many Filipinos.
This 2024, the contribution rate has now increased to 5% of an employee’s monthly salary. Do you think PhilHealth should use its excess funds to cover more essential medical services?
