Huawei just released another pair of affordable 5G phones in China — Honor Play 4 and Honor Play 4 Pro. Packing powerful SoCs, jam-packed main cameras, and dual-selfies, the Play series is one of the few that has this kind of combination. As for their prices, see the breakdown below:
Availability for the Play 4 will start on June 12, with the Play 4 Pro on June 9. We’re hoping to see both devices in the Philippines soon.Â
Starting with the most interesting device, the Play 4 Pro is equipped with an infrared monitor that allows you to measure the body temperature of a person or object between -20°C and 100°C. Unfortunately, the feature is only present in the most expensive variant. As for the standard specs, the device uses Kirin 990 with Balong 5000 modem which is also found on the Honor 30 series and Mate Xs folding phone. There’s flagship-grade camera hardware, too, in the 40MP Sony IMX600 RYYB sensor. It’s accompanied by an 8MP telephoto lens that offers 3x optical zoom and up to 30x digital. That’s all. Yep, only two main cameras. Upfront is another pair of cameras, featuring 32MP wide and 8MP ultrawide. Interestingly, it can record up to 4K@30fps. But for these premium features, you are missing out on a MicroSD slot and audio jack.
Moving to the Honor Play 4, it’s running on MediaTek’s Dimensity 800 that also supports 5G connectivity. For the set of features the device offers, it feels like you’re getting more by paying less. Both the headphone jack and microSD slot expansion are present. However, the screen is larger than your typical 2020 smartphone at 6.81-inch. The large body even comes with splash resistance. As for the cameras, you get the standard 64MP quad-camera setup alongside 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, and 2MP depth. The 16MP selfie camera is housed inside a pinhole cutout and can record up to FHD only.Â
Both Honor Play 4 and Play 4 Pro are available in black, blue, and light blue colors but in different finishes.Â
