France to Ban Disposable E-Cigarettes, Announces Prime Minister

In 2021, French President Emmanuel Macron announced big plans to deal with tobacco and booze. He promised to make more places smoke-free and aimed to get all 20-year-olds to stop smoking by 2030.

On Sunday, France’s Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne said on radio station RTL that France plans to ban electronic cigarettes that can be thrown away.

“It’s an important public health issue,” Borne said. She also said that the government is making plans for a national program to fight tobacco use, which she said kills 75,000 people in France every year.

She also said that so-called “puff” gadgets teach young people bad habits that can lead to tobacco addiction.

The tax on tobacco went up this year, but the government doesn’t plan to raise it again next year, the prime minister said.
