Those who run a Facebook Page for business always yearn for the Like number to keep climbing. But unfortunately in a new update released by the platform, it seems like the exact opposite will happen.
If you run a Facebook page, expect for a drop in the number of your Page likes in the coming weeks. But you need not worry because this is not your fault.
Facebook said on its report that it aims to make Page Likes more meaningful for businesses by updating the way Page likes are counted. Memorialized and voluntarily deactivated accounts will be removed from Page’s like counts to help businesses accumulate more accurate insights from their audience data by keeping it consistent and up-to-date.
This step will also make it easier for businesses to find people like their followers through tools like lookalike audiences. Comments and post likes from deactivated accounts will also be cleared out.
However, if the deactivated accounts are reactivated again, the account will be re-added to a Page’s like count.
