The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has launched EdukSine, a streaming platform to spread the word about Filipino indie films.
At the Cine Adarna Film Institute of the University of the Philippines Diliman, the program was launched on August 13 to highlight moving pictures with global impact. It also promotes Filipino cultural roots and narratives through face-to-face, online, and hybrid block screenings.
According to Karen Jane Salutan, the program aims to provide independent Filipino creatives with meaningful engagements, content, and sustainable support.
A platform for independent films produced by small producers and filmmakers, EdukSine is described as radically different and unconventional.
By connecting socially conscious films with people in rural areas, the platform seeks to bridge the gap between societies in far-flung locations and those in urban centers.
Through its streaming capability, EdukSine will be readily accessible to audiences. It will also reach out to schools, organizations, government offices, and businesses, including villages in the mountains and coasts that are hard to reach.
