The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has announced a strict ban on power banks exceeding 160Wh on both domestic and international flights, according to a report by PhilStar.
CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio stated that officials are coordinating with local and international airlines at major airports, including Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
This comes after an Air Busan aircraft caught fire at Gimhae International Airport on February 28, reportedly due to an overheating power bank inside a carry-on bag.
James Conner, head of CAAP’s flight operations department, clarified that power banks up to 100Wh are allowed onboard without restrictions.
Those between 100Wh and 160Wh require airline approval, while anything beyond 160Wh is strictly prohibited.
Frequent flyers and upcoming travelers are advised to check the capacities and comply with airline regulations to prevent any travel disruptions.
