Apple has added the iPhone XS to its vintage line of products, marking the end of an era for the once-popular smartphone and an icon in the history of iPhones.
The iPhone XS now joins the XS Max, which was announced vintage six months ago. The term ‘vintage’ means that five years have passed since Apple stopped selling the device through its official channels.
Devices with this label can still be repaired at Apple Stores and authorized service centers, but are subject to the availability of parts.
To recap, the iPhone XS was launched back in September 2018, together with the iPhone XS Max. As a successor to the iPhone X, it introduced a faster A12 Bionic chip, slightly better cameras, and dual SIM support via eSIM. The XS lineup was later pulled from Apple’s main lineup the following year.
In two more years from now, the iPhone XS will be classified as fully obsolete, meaning Apple will no longer provide service to the device.
Besides the XS update, Apple also moved the iPad 5th-gen (2017) to its obsolete list.
Moreover, the brand added a disclaimer to its support page to remind 2018 Mac mini users to contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider to find out the device’s service status. This model was added to the vintage list earlier this year.
