Intel and Ericsson Collabs to Develop Powerful 5G Chips

Intel is falling behind in semiconductor manufacture. You read correctly. Intel makes CPUs for other companies, too. Intel led the chip industry from 1971 to 2021. TSMC and Samsung have overtaken it in recent years. Intel wants to improve. Thus, their partnership with Ericsson. They’ll use Intel’s advanced production methods to produce a 5G chip.

Intel and Ericsson Announce Custom 5G Chip

As mentioned earlier, Intel has fallen behind in chip manufacturing for some time. TSMC and Samsung have substantially invested in new production technologies. They can now make smaller, more powerful, and energy-efficient chips. Intel is working to stop this. The corporation invested heavily in production facilities and Tower Semiconductor acquisitions in recent years. Ericsson is paying off these investments.

Apple 5G chip

Intel and Ericsson will collaborate on a 5G processor. Ericsson’s 5G network equipment will use an Intel 18A-built processor. Expect it in 2025. They make 5G network equipment-specific chips. These include speed, power use, and adaptability. This chip should support various 5G standards. Stay tuned for more updates!
