Should you be looking for a cheap laptop, Acer just announced their Chromebook 512 and Chromebook Spin 512 featuring military standard design starting at $329.99(~Php17,000) and $449.99(~Php23,700), respectively.

The Acer Chromebook 512 and Chromebook Spin 512 will come with either an Intel Celeron N4000 Dual-core CPU or Quad-core Pentium Silver N5000. This could be pair with a 4GB RAM or an 8GB option along with 32GB or 64GB storage. It has a (touch or non-touch) 12-inch IPS display set at 1366 x 912 resolution but it has a 180-degree hinge and a battery claiming up to 12 hours of use.

In terms of design, the mil-spec grade is said to handle up to 48 inches drops and up to 132 pounds of pressure (at least on the chassis). Apart from that, it also features a spill-resistant keyboard. Port-wise, we’re looking at two USB 3.0 ports, an audio jack, and a microSD slot.

The Chromebook Spin 512 separates itself by having a full 360-degree hinge along with a Wacom EMR stylus.

Both affordable Chromebooks are expected to retail in April with a later date for global release.

Chromebooks aren’t meant to be powerful like your typical laptop. Instead, it’s meant for students and users whose work resides online. Since today’s generation is looking to be always connected, Chrome OS is finally starting to be an option for everyone.
